A supplier of silicon metal was sued by its customer, a manufacturer of aircraft titanium metals for jet engines, for allowing a contaminant to enter a batch of materials resulting in a recall of parts. Representing the defendant, The Taormina Group used FBP to analyze the quality management systems of both companies. The resulting report and testimony showed that the plaintiff had not exhibited reasonable care in specifying the materials to be supplied by the defendant. The plaintiff had made assumptions about the quality of the materials, and then failed to appropriately inspect and test the incoming materials. A four year old case was settled the day after The Taormina Group presented court testimony that the plaintiff had a ten year history of neglect in its supplier control program. The insurance company funding the defense cited FBP as the cost saving tool for them.

A major international manufacturer of stereo boom-boxes was sued for manufacturing an unsafe product that caused a fire and subsequent death. Representing the plaintiffs, The Taormina Group used FBP to analyze the defendant’s quality management and manufacturing systems. By examining selected documents obtained during discovery, a compelling case was made that the defendant did not follow its own quality procedures. Additionally, The Taormina Group’s manufacturing knowledge revealed two significant design flaws in the electronics that contributed to the catastrophic failure. The case settled on behalf of the plaintiffs.

A manufacturer of aerosol cans was sued by a computer repair technician who used their compressed-air dusters in his daily work. The plaintiff alleged that one of their cans unexpectedly exploded causing serious injury to his eyes. Representing the defendants, The Taormina Group opined that the manufacturer of the aerosol performed 100% inspection of all products that included testing that exceeded any parameters of heat or pressure that would be possible in consumer use, making the allegations implausible. The case was settled outside the conference room while Taormina was waiting to be deposed.
